From age 3 to Masters competition — a complete swimming pathway at Monumentpark Primary School, Pretoria.

The 3-Phase Development System

Every swimmer at Expression Swimmers progresses through a structured three-phase development system — regardless of their age or starting point. The phases are not age-locked; they are skill-locked.

01
Phase One

Water Safety

The foundation of everything. Before a child can swim, they must be safe. Phase One builds water confidence, buoyancy awareness, and the fundamental instinct to stay calm in the water.

  • Water entry and exit safely
  • Breath control and submersion
  • Floating and buoyancy
  • Basic propulsion
  • Water safety awareness
02
Phase Two

Underwater Movement

Once a swimmer is safe and comfortable, we develop their ability to move efficiently underwater. This phase builds the body awareness and coordination that underpins all stroke development.

  • Streamline position
  • Underwater kicking
  • Rotational body movement
  • Breath timing
  • Directional control
03
Phase Three

Stroke Development

With a solid foundation in place, swimmers learn the four competitive strokes with correct technique from the outset. Good habits built here will last a lifetime.

  • Freestyle (front crawl)
  • Backstroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Butterfly
  • Turns and starts
